Academic Competitions

Key points

  • All students are encouraged to take part in the academic competitions provided across academic subjects in 2020.
  • An expectation that students in the GAT programs are involved in the full range of competitions in 2020.
  • One form and payment designed to assist families and students signing up for competitions.

This year, the school has organised for students to have the opportunity to compete and receive feedback from a number of academic competitions in English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Digital Technologies.

Academic competitions provide enrichment and challenge for all our students. These competitions allow students to compete in an alternative setting and receive feedback on their performance compared to other students in the state or across Australia. The competitions provide an opportunity for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom and raise expectations and performance.

All students in Years 7-10 are eligible and encouraged to enter these competitions. As these activities are enrichment activities, all students in academic selective classes for  English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Digital Technologies will take part. Students in these classes who do not wish to or are unable to pay for this year’s competition will still participate on competition day. Those students will sit a past competition paper from a previous year.

Competition entry notes have been distributed to students in these Year groups and are also available below. If your child is competing in this year’s competitions, please return the entry form with payment to the front office by Monday 24 February 2020.
