- Helping all students prepare for a pathway post Year 12 includes preparing students for the workforce and possible apprenticeships and traineeships.
- Students Taste A Range of Trades (START) has re-launched after the restrictions were reduced and is engaging a number of year 12 students in a variety of trade and work force areas to gain experience and exposure to the workplace.
Earlier this year we launched a vocational pathway program for Year 12 called the Students Taste A Range of Trades (START) Program. The program aims to prepare students for the world of work and connect with employers to give students a taste of different vocations. Our intention is to provide increased support to establish a pathway following leaving school.
Our careers adviser, Mrs Hristodoulou has co-ordinated a number of industry partners who are providing quality work placements for our students. Some may lead to future employment. The work placement component aims to provide students with a fantastic opportunity to “taste” and gain insight into various vocation/trade areas while developing specific industry skills and gain valuable real work experiences.
Prior to the commencement of work placement, students will have one-to-one guidance sessions to prepare their resume and/or cover letter, discuss job requirements and finalise documentation.
With the Trial HSC ready to start, organisation will be made to recommence the work placements in Week 7 for year 12 and for some students in Year 11.
Two year 12 students have gained employment with further training as a result of this program and the opportunities are there for other students to prepare for 2021.
