- Year 7 and 8 students have allocated classes to skill up on important literacy and numeracy skills that will help all students with stronger academic achievement.
- The program builds on the innovative formative online assessments that have been guided by English and Mathematics staff since 2019.
- SkillUp will provide students with increased diagnostic testing on skills in literacy and numeracy and provide valuable feedback to students and families to help focus student efforts, as well as feedback to teachers to help guide classroom learning.
From the beginning of 2021, all students in Year 7 and Year 8 have a new subject on their timetable called SkillUp. Theses periods will be staffed by English and Mathematics teachers who will set and conduct formative assessments informed by student performance in previous NAPLAN and in ongoing school diagnostic tests.
SkillUp teachers will provide regular feedback to the Mathematics and English teachers of years 7 and 8, identifying areas of strength and areas needing improvement for individual students and as themes for class performances.
Keeping parents informed on progress will assist in those discussions and create opportunities for further assistance at home, encouraging students to aspire for stronger performance in their literacy and numeracy skills and in their overall academic results.
The program is targeting all students to assist in strengthen and mastering those necessary skills
for stronger academic performance.
