Check-In Assessments for Years 7, 8 and 9

Key Points

  • Check-in assessments are online assessments hosted by the Department of Education that are mapped to NSW syllabuses and the National Literacy and Numeracy learning progressions covering reading and numeracy.
  • The Check-in’s provide valuable baseline data that combined with other school programs, help us to identify the strengths of student skills and areas for further development.
  • Congratulations to students in Years 7, 8 and 9 who undertook the assessments so well this last week.

Student literacy and numeracy skills form the basis of student success with their learning and is something that the school has committed a strong effort with. The 2021 NAPLAN results are indicating student growth significantly above the state and in comparison to our similar schools.  That strong performance is further evident in the outstanding success in high bands across all literacy and numeracy domains highlighting Gymea Technology High School as one of the state’s strong performers. Congratulations to the Year 9 and Year 7 students this year for their preparation and efforts with NAPLAN.

The Check-In assessments are not something students prepare for but are still valuable in assisting teachers to understand student performance as compared across the state and across the learning progressions. Our students are lucky to have a Technology Centre that brings them together in a familiar space where they undertake such assessments in a supported environment.

We hope to gain access to the results in time to share with students and families in the final progress summary for the year.

Well done and congratulations to our students across Years 7, 8 and 9 and thank you to our English and Mathematics staff who work so well together to support our Literacy and Numeracy successes.
